Job Description

Located in Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation seeks a Controller to lead the organization’s accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and internal controls. Reporting to the Director of Finance and supervising a team of accountants, this role blends strategic oversight with hands-on financial management to ensure accurate, timely statements in support of the Foundation’s mission.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of accountants responsible for the organization’s financial operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, audits, general ledger management, internal controls, and daily accounting functions.
Hire, manage, and evaluate staff; provide coaching in accordance with company policy.
Prepare consolidated statements of financial position, consolidated statements of activity, cash flow statements, and other reports reflecting the foundation’s financial position on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
Prepare financial statements and other reports required by management for all supporting organizations; ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Ensure all financial reports are accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant.
Analyze financial data and communicate trends, variances, and recommendations to leadership.
Oversee the general ledger, including posting, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial schedules; review and approve journal entries and interfund transactions.
Supervise accounts payable, vouchers, and check processing to ensure timeliness and accuracy; lead quarterly general ledger reconciliations.
Oversee net asset management, ensuring accurate recording of restricted and non-restricted assets; monitor daily cash activity for operational liquidity.
Provide backup for accounting tasks as needed; oversee ACH payments and support liquidity planning.
Assist leadership with the annual operating budget, partnering with program and departmental leaders; lead quarterly departmental budget vs actual reporting and forecasting efforts.
Lead inventory and fixed asset management, including depreciation, PPE schedules, and related documentation and maintenance.
Maintain a strong internal control framework; update accounting policies and procedures; conduct annual reviews and ensure compliance with nonprofit standards, GAAP, and ASC.
Lead the annual financial statement audit process and serve on the audit liaison team; oversee audit schedules and supporting documentation.
Drive improvements in systems, workflows, and automation for accounting and reporting; manage 1099 filings and related documentation.
Oversee accounting policy and procedures; ensure documentation for tax filings and registrations; lead efforts to enhance accounting systems and reporting capabilities.
Supervise, coach, and mentor finance staff; conduct performance evaluations and support professional development; provide training on procedures and internal controls.
Collaborate with the management team to adapt to operational changes and support organizational culture and resilience.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, audits, budgeting, general ledger management, and internal controls.
Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills; strong working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP, FASB, ASC).
Proficiency with accounting systems (QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel; ability to analyze financial data and prepare meaningful reports.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; capable of leading a finance team and collaborating with programmatic groups.
High integrity, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Experience supporting programmatic teams and cross-departmental collaboration.
