Job Summary

The VP Commercial Credit Administration Manager leads and mentors the team while ensuring effective underwriting and risk assessment outcomes. In line with established policies and procedures, this role conducts credit analysis for new loan requests and oversees the existing portfolio, including annual reviews, loan modifications, tracking financial information, and managing credit administration reports to strengthen the overall risk management of the commercial loan portfolio. The position collaborates with the credit team and the commercial lending team to identify and resolve complex credit issues. Independently approving commercial loans up to $500,000 in TCC, this role supports external loan review and maintains and updates the Commercial Loan Policy and BHG Policy.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial statements, management profiles, business cycles, historical operating performance, and cash flow to assess credit risk.
  • Supervise all analysts, supporting their professional development.
  • Directly work with analysts to enhance credit analysis skills and writing, resulting in comprehensive, in-depth credit analyses for loan transactions with moderate complexity, with minimal supervision from the Credit Manager.
  • Provide constructive comments and recommendations on loan terms and structures to minimize credit risks and protect the bank’s capital.
  • Balance the balance between credit considerations and lending needs, collaborating with analysts and lenders to reach well-reviewed recommendations that comply with regulatory and bank standards.
  • Independently complete key underwriting for mid-size to large commercial loan requests in a timely fashion, including but not limited to commercial mortgages, commercial and industrial loans, working capital revolving credit loans, and commercial construction loans.
  • Prepare and review in-depth written analyses for relationships of varying size and complexity, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, guidelines, and bank policies.
  • Perform analysis and research required for the annual review of all borrower relationships as well as the annual review and renewal of all working capital revolving lines of credit, and renewal of maturing loans.
  • Interact with customers, bank officers, and Loan Operations to respond to inquiries, questions, problems, and other credit issues in a timely manner.
  • Conduct thorough appraisal reviews to ensure all appraisals used by the bank comply with related appraisal regulations and the bank’s internal appraisal policy.
  • Provide routine and ad hoc reports to effectively manage the commercial loan portfolio.
  • Prepare periodic industry analyses to identify credit concentrations and improve underwriting, particularly in new industries, while monitoring industry trends affecting the portfolio.
  • Oversee input, maintenance, and distribution of credit administration data related to the Finastra/Credit Quest and Abrigo Construct systems.
  • Manage the bank’s BHG Loan Purchase Program.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on regulatory requirements related to the safety and soundness and compliance regulations of commercial lending, sharing knowledge and guidance with team members as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with all related bank policies, Bank Secrecy Act, confidentiality, standardized procedures, and regulations.
  • Engage in ongoing training to further overall banking background.
  • Represent the bank in the community and at business and professional association functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience in underwriting and risk assessment for commercial loans, including analysis of financial statements, cash flows, and management profiles.
  • Proven ability to supervise and develop analysts, and to collaborate with lending teams to reach well-considered recommendations.
  • Ability to underwrite mid-size to large commercial loan requests, including commercial mortgages, commercial and industrial loans, working capital revolving credit facilities, and construction loans.
  • Proficiency in preparing detailed written credit analyses and ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and bank policies.
  • Familiarity with credit administration systems such as Finastra/Credit Quest and Abrigo Construct; experience with the BHG Loan Purchase Program is a plus.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to commercial lending and a commitment to Bank Secrecy Act and confidentiality.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to respond to inquiries promptly and professionally.
