Position Overview

Our client, a Japanese bank, is seeking a Sales Manager to lead the global transaction banking efforts from New York. Location: New York, NY 10040. This is a direct-hire, full-time role with a salary range of $100,000 to $120,000 per year.

Department Focus

Global Transaction Banking Americas (GTBA) offers a broad set of transaction banking solutions, including payments and collections, cash management, liquidity management, trade finance (conventional letters of credit, supply chain finance, standby letters of credit), Commercial Card, foreign exchange, and treasury-related products. GTBA targets corporate clients, primarily Japanese and US-based companies.

Summary

The role focuses on expanding the global transaction banking business and increasing revenue from a diverse client base by delivering a suite of global cash management services, covering domestic US cash management as well as cross-border and global cash management and card services.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive portfolio sales plan to meet revenue targets and key performance indicators
  • Proactively originate, cultivate, and manage new and existing target clients for domestic, cross-border, and global transaction banking opportunities (cash management and FX)
  • Lead and manage the sales process as appropriate
  • Create compelling sales materials for client presentations
  • Respond to Requests for Proposals by forming the deal team, evaluating the RFP, making go/no-go decisions, defining the proposed solution, coordinating and drafting responses, submitting the final proposal, pitching, and coordinating with relevant teams to close and implement
  • Develop and maintain a robust sales pipeline
  • Represent the bank at industry conferences
  • Research regulatory and tax issues related to corporate cash and treasury management
  • Maintain and promptly update customer files, including call reports
  • Create internal applications to support the approval process
  • Collaborate with teams implementing cash management services
  • Contribute to expanding knowledge of cash and treasury management within the team
  • Perform other sales duties as needed
  • Partner with Product Management teams within GTBA and Japan to understand offerings, gather client needs and market trends, and provide feedback on products and market developments
  • Provide client updates on issues affecting product competitiveness and incorporate these insights into department plans and initiatives
  • Work with Relationship Managers in the Americas and Japan to proactively pursue opportunities and develop Product Account Plans for designated clients to increase wallet share
  • Build strong client relationships, including those responsible for cash management, treasury, and procurement; conduct standalone or joint client calls to present transaction banking solutions

Collaboration and Product Feedback

  • Establish strong working relationships with Product Management teams in GTBA and Japan, gaining a practical understanding of product offerings
  • Provide updates on client needs and market pricing and trends to Product Management and the broader team

Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Japanese and English; Spanish is a plus
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in transaction banking
  • Experience managing relationships for Japanese subsidiaries operating in the Americas is preferred, but not essential if the candidate has substantial commercial banking client experience
  • Broad knowledge of cash management services
  • Strong understanding of working capital solutions, corporate treasury management practices, advisory services, and credit
  • Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Documented success in achieving new business and annuity sales targets
  • Ability to coordinate deal activity across regions, branches, and departments
  • Hands-on, proactive approach to navigating internal process complexity
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork in a multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to work with staff at all levels; strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills
  • Strong presentation, organizational, and planning skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
