Job Description

The Commercial Credit Manager (CCM) oversees quality underwriting, compliance, and credit monitoring for an assigned portfolio, while supporting new business development in alignment with credit risk policy and TD Bank Group's risk appetite. This role manages the credit underwriting and credit administration functions within a Regional Market or Middle Market segment. Core responsibilities include issuing credit understanding and approvals, managing credit analysts, and fostering ongoing development of credit skills and career growth for analysts. The CCM supervises a subset of credit analysts within a market where the team size justifies this leadership position. Collaboration with the Credit Officer is essential to ensure consistency with the TD Bank Group's Risk Appetite Principles, including establishing Borrower Risk Ratings and Facility Risk Ratings for new and existing relationships.

Depth and Scope

Conduct preliminary research on potential clients to assess alignment with TD Bank products and structures, while assisting in evaluating credit needs and alignment with TD Credit Risk Appetite.
Attend site visits as needed or requested.
Oversee Credit Analysts in the preparation of preliminary spreads, cash flow analyses, BRR, and term sheets used to determine whether to move forward with prospects; supervise Officer Analysis and input BRR, FRR, Covenant, and ARD.
Ensure staff are knowledgeable of and operate within applicable regulatory and compliance guidelines and procedures (including AML, Privacy, Firewalls, Systems & Information Security, FCAC, etc) and ensure required compliance attestations/training are completed within required timelines.
Assess all credit applications to ensure a high-quality risk assessment, credit structure analysis, due diligence, and credit presentation.
Balance customer risk with pricing appropriately.
Maintain joint signature approval on credits within delegated limits and provide recommendations on all others.
Ensure the overall portfolio is comprehensively monitored and controlled in line with approved guidelines and operating policies and procedures.
Interpret and apply TD’s risk management strategy (credit and operational).
Implement and operate systems to identify and mitigate operational risk issues, including serving as the Unit’s designated anti-money laundering officer.
Stay informed about changing market conditions and relevant industry issues.
Manage aspects of the customer relationship, including reviewing reports and delinquencies, signing covenant compliance forms, assisting in developing strategy if failures occur, and conducting monthly monitoring.
May lead a team of Analysts in monitoring loan covenants, loan delinquencies, and the annual review and renewal of existing credit relationships.

Education & Experience

Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA and MBA candidates preferred

Sets up and maintains automatic payments including ACH origination, ACH deductions, and automatic transfers.

Analyzes credit reports and provides financial education to applicants.

Opens new member accounts and actively cross sells credit union products and services.
Maintains existing accounts, including updates to joint owners and beneficiaries, changes to address and contact information, online banking password resets, and obtaining updated identification.
Keeps the work area clean, well maintained, and secure at all times.

Marginal Functions

May perform Notary services.
Maintain loan vault, organizing paper documents for record retention and disposing of documents that have reached record retention maturity.
May serve as a backup Loan Processor.
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training in financial services, bookkeeping, or accounting is required.
At least two years of prior similar customer service experience; prior credit union experience may be preferred.
Strong emphasis on sales and public relations skills; professional business attire and presentation required.
Ability to conduct member interviews within regulatory guidelines, assist members in accurate completion of product applications, perform basic analysis of member needs, and provide initial recommendations and basic financial services counseling.
After hire, complete all required E-training coursework as outlined by credit union procedures within defined timeframes; continuous skill upgrading, including suggested completion of other E-training modules, may be required at management’s discretion.
In the first 90 days, develop extensive knowledge of Credit Union policies and internal procedures to function effectively.
