Job Description

Role overview

AXA XL’s Wholesale Solutions team within the Excess and Surplus (E&S) Casualty East unit is expanding as part of a growth-driven strategy for Excess and Surplus lines. This position presents a chance to contribute to an innovative team that has been shaping the future since 1978, delivering high-caliber underwriting and expanding reach, products, and wholesale partnerships. AXA XL’s E&S unit provides Umbrella and Excess Liability coverage to North American insureds, with underwriting teams located in the United States, Canada, Bermuda, and Dublin. Coverage may be written on an occurrence, claims-made, or occurrence-reported basis, and the appetite spans clients in manufacturing, retail, construction, energy, rail, and beyond. The successful candidate will manage a renewal book, pursue new business, and develop new distribution channels through disciplined underwriting in the assigned territory. The position reports to the Head of East, E&S Casualty.

What you’ll be doing

  • Contribute to the region’s strategic plan execution with a focus on the assigned territory.
  • Manage an existing E&S Casualty portfolio, pursuing growth targets while ensuring regional profitability.
  • Support development of new products based on experience and market needs.
  • Increase territory visibility by articulating underwriting appetite and creating new opportunities through strong broker relationships.
  • Operate with a degree of underwriting authority commensurate with experience, working self-directed as appropriate.
  • Cultivate and maintain key broker relationships to secure a steady flow of business within our underwriting appetite.
  • Deliver client service that reinforces a positive AXA XL image.
  • Partner with other core lines to enable cross-sell opportunities and cross-marketing with XL lines; meet brokers and insureds as required.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support cross-functional opportunities within the region.
  • Report to the Head of East, E&S Casualty and act as a regional representative for the line.

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Moderate experience in E&S General Liability and/or Excess Underwriting.
  • Strong existing marketing relationships within the assigned territory and a track record in a production underwriting role.
  • Deep underwriting expertise across general classes with the ability to manage a high-volume portfolio.
  • Self-starter with strong organization, capable of working independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-focused environment.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain insured and broker relationships of the highest standard.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, with collaboration and presentation capabilities and a willingness to mentor others.
  • Willingness to travel across the territory for client, broker, and internal meetings (approximately 20%).
