Overview

The Credit Portfolio Manager I role is part of TD Bank’s State & Municipal Credit Management group. It can be based in New York or Philadelphia. The incumbent will handle underwriting duties and manage a portfolio of governmental borrowers, including state and local governments, municipal utilities, housing authorities, and other special districts. The position requires producing concise credit write-ups and performing thorough financial and industry analyses to support sound lending aligned with TD’s risk appetite and strategic priorities.

Compensation: Base salary range candidate to candidate is $100,000 to $165,000 USD

Responsibilities

  • Collect financial and business information for borrower requests and conduct financial analyses needed for credit decisions.
  • Contribute to the group loan decision process by evaluating credit risk and other critical factors; support the commercial banking team and propose credit solutions that add value for customers.
  • Oversee specific credit activities to ensure underwriting quality, consistency, and timely delivery in line with customer expectations.
  • Handle larger, more complex transactions with a focus on Middle Market clients.
  • Lead or contribute to the development and rollout of commercial and credit related initiatives.
  • Serve as a consultant to business lines on credit issues, processes, and procedures; act as a trusted resource for management on various topics, managing expectations and timelines.
  • Partner with Lending and Credit Officers to address exceptions raised by internal or external auditors and examiners; conduct periodic on-site inspections to audit accounts and verify loan terms.
  • Coordinate with Account and Relationship Managers to perform routine financial analyses and credit investigations; communicate credit decisions to Relationship and Account Managers.
  • Manage workflow and policy adherence within the department; participate in cost-benefit analyses and implement improvements; maintain quantifiable service level standards tied to performance.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of credit and customer information at all times.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; 5+ years in related areas.
  • Solid understanding of commercial business development techniques and credit decision processes.
  • Proven track record in business development; strong market presence with a broad network of external referral sources for new opportunities.
  • Strong credit and financial analysis capabilities; well-honed negotiation and communication skills, both verbal and written; proficient computer skills.

Travel, Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Domestic travel – Occasional; International travel – Never.
  • Working largely in an office environment with continuous desk work; ability to concentrate for long periods.
  • Able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and operate standard office equipment on a regular basis.
  • Physical readiness to perform routine activities such as reading, writing, and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds; occasional standing and walking.
  • Specific movements include occasional reaching forward, occasional reaching overhead, and occasional twisting; no requirement for climbing, kneeling, crawling, or frequent lifting beyond 25 pounds.
