Our underwriting groups operate in the United States, Bermuda and Canada, and this opportunity is based in Dallas, Texas. Coverage can be written on an occurrence, claims-made, or occurrence-reported basis. Our appetite spans manufacturing, retail, hospitality, real estate, banking, wholesale distribution, and many other sectors. You will report to the Dallas Underwriting Manager for Excess Casualty and travel within the territory (20 percent) for client, broker, and internal meetings; the territory includes TX, OK, AR and LA.

What you’ll do

  • Underwrite, manage and service your own book of business in accordance with AXA XL underwriting guidelines and annual goals.
  • Market and solicit new business opportunities from broker partners to build and strengthen relationships in the retail community.
  • Cross-sell with other business units to maximize AXA XL results through data mining, targeted accounts and established relationships.
  • Analyze submissions, including applications, policy wording, inspection reports and loss runs, and conduct appropriate research to determine risk level for each account.
  • Utilize underwriting tools such as exposure, experience and industry ratings to assess complex casualty exposure; loss rating experience is a plus.
  • Adhere to underwriting guidelines, authorities and referral requirements as needed by regional management, product management and chief underwriting officers.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across actuarial, claims, legal and risk engineering to assess current and prospective risks.
  • Serve your book in collaboration with the Middle Office to ensure timely and accurate delivery of quotations, binders, policies and endorsements.
  • Contribute to regional planning by developing and executing your own annual desk-level underwriting plan.
  • Travel throughout the territory (20 percent) for client, broker and internal meetings.

What you’ll bring

  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with peers, brokers, agents and risk management professionals through organizational, time-management and multitasking skills.
  • Underwriting experience, a plus if it includes umbrella and excess casualty with solid knowledge of coverages and contracts.
  • Proactive internal and external analysis to complete underwriting assessments, strong problem-solving skills and robust sales and marketing abilities.
  • Experience working hands-on with actuarial, referral and colleague teams.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong collaboration and presentation abilities; negotiation skills and strategic agility are required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
