Overview

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Chief Financial Officer directs River Bend Food Bank’s financial operations and serves as a pivotal member of the Executive Team. The CFO ensures GAAP-compliant financial reporting and provides strategic input to sustain the organization’s financial stability.

Compensation and Location

Salary Range: Low $98,300; Mid $126,700; High $150,980. Location: Davenport, IA 52802.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with hunger-relief partners, staff, volunteers, donors, and the public.
  • Act as a strategic advisor for both short-term and long-term financial planning, goals, and policies.
  • Oversee financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis of income, expenses, and earnings.
  • Present quarterly financial reporting, forecasts, and analyses to the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee; maintain Finance Committee meeting minutes. Support the Board Treasurer and CEO by attending Board meetings and addressing financial questions as needed.
  • Manage cash flow in line with cash management and investment policies to optimize earnings for short- and long-term cash investments.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, ensuring proper segregation of duties by updating accounting policies, procedures, and manuals to support successful independent audits.
  • Lead the Finance Team, ensuring timely reconciliations, accurate reporting, and adherence to organizational standards outlined in the accounting policy and procedural manual.
  • Oversee the annual and single audits; coordinate with external auditors, promptly resolve findings, and implement improvements. Collaborate with tax professionals to prepare and review the Form 990 filing.
  • Direct the annual budget process with department leaders and the finance team; ensure budgets are correctly entered into the financial system. Present results to the Finance Committee.
  • Provide and validate data for Feeding America’s compliance requirements through timely and precise submission of all financial reports and data. Calculate dollars-per-meal using Feeding America guidance at least every three years.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements for Iowa and Illinois to ensure timely preparation and filing of all financial information.
  • Ensure proper recording and tracking of all grants, including lifecycle stewardship, compliance, drawdowns, and reporting to support strategic initiatives.
  • Assess and recommend insurance coverage to mitigate risk in collaboration with the organization’s brokers.
  • Oversee Human Resources policies and benefits, including payroll and employee benefits, to ensure cost-effective plans.
  • Manage IT operations in partnership with third-party providers; supervise equipment inventory, approve purchases, and ensure cybersecurity training compliance.
  • Review vendor contracts with the CEO to ensure alignment with River Bend Food Bank’s objectives and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minimum of 10 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA or Master’s in accounting strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and accounting software; ability to learn new systems used in food banking.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to present information effectively to staff, Board members, and the public.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with strong typing and data-entry skills.
  • Commitment to the mission of ending hunger.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
  • Successful completion of background check, credit check, and drug screening.
