Job Description
Position Overview
The Controller is a senior executive accountable for the company’s overall financial stewardship while also guiding Human Resources and Information Technology operations. This role ensures robust financial controls, accurate reporting, compliant HR practices, and dependable IT systems. Serving as the primary operational partner to the CEO, the Controller combines strategic insight with practical execution. Location: East Wenatchee, Washington (East Wenatchee, WA 98802).
Finance & Accounting
- Direct all accounting and finance activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, inventory costing, and cash management
- Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Maintain and enhance internal controls and financial policies to minimize errors, omissions, and fraud
- Coordinate audits, tax filings, and collaboration with external advisors
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to the CEO and leadership team
- Oversee inventory accounting across multiple locations (fertilizer, ag chemical, post-harvest chemical, and packaging supplies)
- Ensure accurate cost, pricing, and margin analysis
- Remain informed about financial markets and industry trends affecting the company’s finances
- Manage organizational debt and participate in loan negotiations
Human Resources
- Oversee HR operations including payroll coordination, benefits administration, hiring support, onboarding, and maintaining employee records
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Support performance management, compensation planning, and policy development
- Serve as a resource to managers on HR-related matters
- Manage HR vendors, benefit providers, and insurance programs
Information Technology
- Oversee the company’s IT systems, infrastructure, and cybersecurity practices
- Manage relationships with IT vendors and managed service providers
- Ensure reliability and security of ERP, accounting, HR, and operational systems
- Support systems implementations, upgrades, and process automation
- Align IT capabilities with business needs and growth plans
Leadership & Operations
- Lead and develop finance, HR, and IT staff
- Establish department goals, priorities, and performance standards
- Document and enforce policies and procedures across the function
- Prepare forecasts and cash flow projections
- Track performance against budget and identify risks or opportunities
- Manage sales tax, income tax support, and regulatory filings
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience; prior experience in agricultural supply, cooperative, distribution, or manufacturing is highly preferred
- Experience managing multi-functional teams (finance, HR, IT)
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting and cost of goods sold
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting
- Working knowledge of HR compliance and IT systems management
- Experience with ERP and systems implementations (e.g., Agvance, AgRetail, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage Intacct)
- Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
- Manufacturing, distribution, or wholesale industry experience is a plus
