Job Description

PrideStaff is seeking a Project Accountant to manage the full-cycle financial operations for assigned construction projects. This on-site role in Woodland Hills, CA collaborates with Project Managers to oversee job cost tracking, subcontractor billing, owner billings (AIA), and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, ensuring accurate financials across multiple active projects. A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and 3-7 years of construction accounting experience are ideal, with compensation in the range of USD 40 - 55 per hour.

Responsibilities

Manage day-to-day accounting for assigned projects from project setup through closeout.
Prepare and submit owner billings, including AIA G702/G703 pay applications.
Review, process, and track subcontractor pay applications, including compliance.
Maintain and reconcile job costs, commitments, and cost-to-complete projections.
Monitor project budgets vs. actuals and partner with Project Managers to identify risks and variances.
Ensure accurate cost coding and allocation across all project expenses.
Track and manage retainage (AR/AP) and ensure proper release upon project milestones.
Process and track change orders for both subcontractors and owners.
Prepare and update Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, including revenue recognition (POC).
Support month-end close, including accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations.
Assist with audit and surety reporting, including preparation of required schedules and documentation.
Maintain complete and organized project financial files.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Experience with AIA billing (G702/G703) and AIA/WIP.
3-7 years of experience in construction accounting, preferably with a general contractor.
Experience with subcontractors’ pay applications and compliance tracking.
Job cost accounting and WIP reporting experience.
Percentage-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition.
Construction accounting systems experience (YARDI, Sage 300/Timberline, Procore, Viewpoint, CMiC, or similar).
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple active projects.
Experience with surety bonding and financial reporting.
Familiarity with union and certified payroll environments.
CPA or progress toward certification is preferred.
Strong ownership of project financials and proactive problem-solving abilities.
Analytical mindset and effective cross-functional communication with operations teams.

Overview

SEIU Local 521 is seeking a Finance Director to lead the union’s finance, accounting, and dues/membership system. The role supervises a staff of eight and ensures regulatory compliance while aligning financial activities with the union's mission. This hybrid remote position is based in San Jose, California, with a salary range of $140,672 to $155,037 per year.

Responsibilities

Manage all financial operations of the union, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, budgeting, reporting, and member management.
In consultation with the senior leadership team, develop, manage and report on the union’s annual budget.
Ensure that all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and union policies.
Coordinate and refine member data processing systems and procedures.
Produce accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, budget documents, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, for union leadership and members.
Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures for the union, and ensure they are followed by staff and members.
Provide financial guidance to the union's leadership team, including the President, Treasurer, and Executive Board.
Manage the union's investments, including monitoring investment performance and ensuring compliance with investment policies.
Oversee the union's audit process, including managing the relationship with the independent auditor, providing documentation, and ensuring that audit findings are addressed.
Collaborate across multiple departments and complete cross-functional projects.
Hire, train, and effectively manage staff.
Work with external vendors and service providers, such as banks, insurance providers, and accounting firms, to meet the union's financial needs.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field. Experience in lieu of degree is acceptable.
8-10+ years of experience in financial management, budgeting and forecasting, preferably in a union or non-profit organization.
A demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of SEIU.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, and experience with financial software and systems.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve financial issues as well as develop creative solutions.
Experience building and leading teams and developing staff.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Must live within commuting distance to the San Jose office.

Preferences

Experience in overseeing payroll and in ERP implementations
Experience in a membership-based organization

Working conditions

Hours can be long and irregular at times, with occasional travel including overnight stays. Increased onsite presence required during training, eventually transitioning to onsite as needed.
