Summary
A prominent construction firm focused on affordable housing seeks a Project Accountant to join their Woodland Hills team. The role is responsible for end-to-end financial management of designated projects and collaborates closely with Project Managers to monitor costs and project performance. The ideal candidate brings solid construction accounting experience and a proactive approach to safeguarding the financial health of projects.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounting for assigned projects from setup through closeout.
- Prepare and submit owner billings, including AIA G702 and G703 pay applications.
- Review, process, and track subcontractor pay applications and ensure compliance.
- Maintain and reconcile job costs, commitments, and cost-to-complete projections.
- Monitor project budgets versus actuals and Partner with Project Managers to identify risks and variances.
- Ensure accurate cost coding and allocation across all project expenses.
- Track and manage retainage within AR/AP and ensure proper release upon project milestones.
- Process and track change orders for both subcontractors and owners.
- Prepare and update Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, including revenue recognition under POC.
- Support month-end close, including accruals, journal entries, and reconciliations.
- Assist with audit and surety reporting, including preparation of required schedules and documentation.
- Maintain complete and organized project financial files.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Experience with AIA billing (G702/G703) and AIA/WIP processes.
- 3 to 7 years of experience in construction accounting, preferably with a general contractor.
- Subcontractors pay applications and compliance tracking.
- Job cost accounting and WIP reporting.
- Percentage-of-completion (POC) revenue recognition.
- Construction accounting systems (YARDI, Sage 300/Timberline, Procore, Viewpoint, CMiC, or similar).
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple active projects.
- Experience with surety bonding and financial reporting.
- Familiarity with union and certified payroll environments.
- CPA or progress toward certification.
- Strong ownership of project financials.
- Analytical and detail-oriented mindset.
- Effective cross-functional communication with operations teams and proactive issue resolution.
Details
Pay: $40.00 - $55.00 per hour. Schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Location: Woodland Hills, CA 91367. This is an on-site position.
