Underwriter II
Job Description
This position contributes to the bank's performance and profitability by evaluating credit risk and overseeing commercial real estate and construction loan opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite and evaluate commercial real estate and construction loan applications.
- Examine and verify the accuracy and consistency of all provided financial information and documentation; ensure loan files contain all required application forms; validate all regulatory disclosures provided by the processor.
- Identify, review and analyze all relevant information to assess credit risk; determine profitability, strength of a guarantor or borrower, and sources of repayment.
- Disseminate financial information as part of the credit application process.
- Review third party vendor reports while communicating with the respective parties to resolve any discrepancies discovered.
- Prepare credit proposals with respect to financial standing and make recommendations to the Bank’s loan committee and/or Board of Directors for approval or denial of a prospective or existing credit, as well as documenting reasons for policy exception recommendations, if any.
- Monitor the existing portfolio to include annual reviews of credit and renewal of existing lines of credit, as well as compliance with covenants.
Ancillary Functions
- Ensure adherence to Bank policies and procedures and federal and state regulatory requirements.
- Provide cross functional support to other areas of the department and the Bank where service or assistance is needed.
- Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances.
Mandatory Training
Training is required of all Bank staff as related to regulatory mandated compliance topics and courses required for specific job functions. Career enhancement training courses are also available. Please refer to course catalog and management for details.
Competencies

- Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills
- Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills
- Proficient knowledge of underwriting
- Moderate PC skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
Physical Demands
The physical and related demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This role is largely sedentary, with occasional lifting of files and other materials up to 20 pounds. Work is performed in an office environment during regular business hours, with frequent contact with internal and external customers and other members of the public. Positive interactions with the public are expected.
Education and Training
Bachelor's degree in business, economics, accounting, finance, real estate development or related field of study normally required; specialized mortgage loan underwriting education/training.
Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of underwriting experience in commercial, construction, and owner-occupied mortgage loans with loan sizes exceeding $5MM. Construction experience strongly preferred.

$92,280 - $107,650
