Staff Accountant

Overview

We are assisting a stable private company located near Farmville, VA 23901 with its search for a Corporate Accountant. This newly created role reports to the Controller and works closely with a small accounting team. The position operates on a hybrid schedule with three on-site days each week.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
• Support the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entry preparation and reconciliation.
• Evaluate and strengthen internal accounting controls to ensure data integrity and compliance.
• Perform account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
• Assist in preparing budgets and conducting variance analysis as needed.
• Oversee the accounts payable aging report's preparation, review, and resolution to ensure timely vendor payments and accurate reporting.
• Analyze financial data to support decision-making and identify areas for improvement.
• Make recommended changes to improve departmental processes and efficiencies.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 2 to 4 years of public accounting and/or corporate accounting experience
• Strong systems experience including MS Excel and ERPs; NetSuite experience preferred
• Thorough knowledge of GAAP and strong technical skills
• Ability and desire to grow within the organization
