Overview
Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company, part of the PPL Corporation family, serve more than 1.3 million customers and have consistently ranked among the best in customer service. LG&E serves 334,000 natural gas and 433,000 electric customers in Louisville and 16 surrounding counties, while KU serves 569,000 customers across 77 Kentucky counties and five counties in Virginia. This role involves performing and coordinating a broad set of operational and financial duties and analyses, requiring knowledge of the electric line of business and utility accounting processes, with oversight of a budgeting contractor group.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the collection, maintenance, and analysis of forecast and financial data for the department, and conduct financial and statistical analyses.
- Oversee a contractor workforce focused on budgeting, invoices, overhead, damage claims, and underground electric transmission and distribution contracts, ensuring work aligns with Company standards.
- Evaluate contractor performance and progress, and review evaluations with the contractor.
- Plan and coordinate the development of the annual operating plan for the department or division.
- Prepare and submit the operating expenditure plan with managers and group leaders; coordinate capital budgeting with electric distribution personnel and Budgeting.
- Document processes and recommend improvements for tracking capital projects.
- Provide support to Electric Distribution regarding requests from Property Accounting.
- Provide direction and guidance on proper accounting of electric distribution lines, including both Capital and O&M functions.
- Develop and coordinate the department or division budget.
- Coordinate the monthly opex and capital forecast.
- Prepare and submit Authorization for Investment Proposals for Capital Expenditures.
- Coordinate with Contractors and ED personnel to compile monthly and year end accruals.
- Perform a wide variety of calculations and analyses and prepare intricate financial and operational reports.
- Utilize Oracle, Power Plan, ARM and related applications in preparing budget vs. actual analysis and forecast performance.
- Provide various levels of support with respect to Company projects or assignments.
- Maintain strong interpersonal skills for continuous interaction with all levels of management and administrative staff.
- Review all assigned tasks to ensure efficiency and cost effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor contracts to ensure execution per terms and conditions.
- Oversee the invoice review process, including reviewing contractor invoices for contract compliance and supervising the invoice review analyst.
- Provide direction, guidance, and training to personnel processing contractor invoices.
- Serve as a liaison between management and contractors on contract matters including schedule, procurement, and budget.
- Review contractor reports for forecast accuracy, proper procurement reporting, and completeness.
- Provide effective consultation, analysis, and support to management, other departments, and auditors.
- Maintain understanding of the company’s computer functions and systems and their relationship to accounting discipline.
- Maintain thorough working knowledge of the Classification of Accounts.
Qualifications
Required: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business; at least five years of applicable experience in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing financial and operational performance.
Preferred: Advanced degree; additional emphasis on detailed numerical work and demonstrated proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, and financial software; familiarity with Electric Distribution Line of Business; knowledge of generally accepted accounting standards and procedures; strong interpersonal skills for explaining or interpreting budget policy, practices, utility accounting, property accounting, programs, and performance.
