The Opportunity
This role sits within the National Accounts Employee Benefits Underwriting group and oversees all aspects of risk selection, pricing, and proposal development for Group Disability and Life new business and renewals for 2,000+ lives. You will apply standard underwriting principles to evaluate, rate, and negotiate pricing for new business, leveraging in-depth product knowledge and exercising independent decision-making within underwriting policies and procedures.
How you will contribute
- Evaluate, price, propose rates, and develop strategies to acquire and renew National Account clients
- Conduct in-depth risk assessments and pricing for prospective and inforce customers in line with underwriting guidelines and authority limits
- Provide customer reporting and analytics
- Collaborate with sales, national accounts practice leader, and home office subject matter experts to create comprehensive pricing and solutions
- Recommend changes in policies and procedures to better address evolving client and market needs
- Proactively manage inforce blocks of business to maintain profitability and persistency expectations
- Mentoring and underwriter development
What you will bring with you
- Minimum of 7+ years of group underwriting experience
- Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, time/work management, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing demands, including system and process changes
- Motivated, positive, team-oriented approach
- Proficient PC skills, including Excel and word processing applications
- Solid analytical and negotiation abilities, with an in-depth understanding of industry contractual language and provisions
- High-level, technical understanding of underwriting principles and theory
Salary and benefits
Salary Range: $85,200 - $127, 800. We are committed to pay transparency and equity. The salary range for this role is competitive nationwide, and compensation is determined by your unique skills, qualifications, experience, education, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive award based on individual performance as well as the overall performance of the business. We are dedicated to creating a work environment where everyone is rewarded for their contributions.
Location and work model
Hybrid remote in Portland, ME 04101. Sun Life embraces a hybrid work model that balances in-office collaboration with virtual work. Team members and leaders are expected to be in the office at least two days per week.
