Role overview

The Senior Loan Review Associate operates within the Loan Review team under Enterprise Risk Management. This role conducts reviews of the Bank's non-consumer loan portfolios, analyzing financial information, collateral, and underwriting decisions to ensure alignment with Bank policies and regulatory guidelines. It involves assessing the quality and condition of individual credits and determining appropriate risk ratings. The incumbent will provide the VP, Loan Review with objective assessments of the credits reviewed in a timely manner. Internal loan review delivers management and the board with an objective, independent, and timely evaluation of the overall quality of the non-consumer loan portfolios. The Senior Loan Review Associate is expected to validate loan risk ratings based on the timely identification of problem loans by business units so that necessary actions can be taken to strengthen credit quality and minimize the Bank's credit loss. An effective credit risk review system identifies relevant trends affecting portfolio quality and highlights segments that may present risk.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform loan review analyses of non-consumer loans across the Bank’s portfolios, including financial information, cash flow, collateral, loan documentation, and underwriting decisions.
  • Analyze Debt Service Coverage Ratio and covenant trends, and update action plans for classified assets as needed.
  • Ensure individual loan transactions are adequately underwritten and properly graded in accordance with Policy.
  • Provide recommendations for adjustments to the loan risk grade.
  • Collaborate with the VP, Loan Review and applicable credit personnel to discuss results and recommendations.
  • Participate in targeted reviews as directed by the VP, Loan Review, including retrospective postmortem reviews and lessons learned to identify underwriting or asset management improvements to prevent future credit issues.
  • Identify relevant portfolio trends that may indicate changes in credit risk.
  • Develop and maintain functional partnerships with colleagues in the line of business to ensure effective communication and understanding of credit-related processes.
  • Promote a positive work atmosphere by maintaining a professional demeanor and effective communication with co-workers, management, partners, and vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with all banking laws, rules, regulations, and prescribed policies and procedures to reduce risk and uphold ethical standards related to duties.
  • Validate loan risk ratings based on the timely identification of problem loans by the business units to enable necessary actions.

What we are looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or accounting is required, with a minimum of five years’ experience as a credit analyst, loan review analyst, or risk analyst overseeing a growing commercial portfolio.
  • Knowledge in SBA, commercial and industrial, multi-family, and healthcare lending; banking or financial services background is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization through strong verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated confidentiality.
