Role overview

As part of the Independent Risk Management team, this role provides credit risk oversight for the Banking division within Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB Banking). CIB Banking delivers integrated financial solutions to corporate clients, covering both investment grade and non investment grade, as well as public and private customers.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as a core contributor to credit risk oversight for CIB Banking, supporting the division’s objectives while upholding prudent underwriting standards and strong portfolio quality.
  • Maintain portfolio health by offering informed risk guidance, recommendations, and approvals; conduct regular portfolio evaluations and reviews of deteriorating or problem credits, escalating matters when appropriate.
  • Develop and sustain a solid understanding of bank credit policy, regulatory standards and guidance, and risk rating applicability; provide leadership on these areas to CIB Banking teams and partners.
  • Build and maintain knowledge of industries and sectors; collaborate with product teams and subject matter experts to inform decisions.
  • Regularly review pipeline activity with CIB Banking teams and assist in managing deadline awareness and client expectations for coverage teams and deals.
  • Provide thoughtful leadership on due diligence and analytical focus, particularly for merger and acquisition financing and other complex transactions.
  • Engage with internal and external customers to support informed decision making.

Required qualifications

  • 7+ years of credit risk and approval experience, or an equivalent combination of work experience, training, military experience, or education.

Desired qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance, or economics.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a matrix environment and build strong partnerships across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong credit analysis skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Experience with complex organizational and capital structures.
  • Solid understanding of capital markets.
  • Ability to influence at the executive level and foster effective partnership.
  • Solid understanding of Wells Fargo's credit culture and risk management approach.
