MP Plumbing is a family owned plumbing contractor serving the Portland metro area. Our team of about 25 professionals handles both service and construction work, with a focus on robust financial systems that support steady growth, clear operations, and excellent customer service.
Responsibilities

Revenue and Receivables Management
Oversee billing for service and construction work, monitor accounts receivable aging and collections, ensure prompt invoicing of completed work orders, identify and resolve unbilled or delayed revenue items, and maintain controls to prevent revenue leakage.

Expense and Payables Management
Direct vendor bill entry and payment processes, review accounts payable aging and manage vendor relationships, ensure expenses and job costs post to the correct accounting period, uphold internal controls for purchasing and vendor payments, and maintain pricebook and inventory management.

Cash Management and Bank Controls
Perform and review monthly bank and merchant account reconciliations, monitor cash balances, coordinate transfers between accounts, ensure accurate recording of merchant fees and bank charges, and support cash flow planning.

Financial Close and Reporting
Manage the monthly close process and period controls, record journal entries, accruals, and adjustments, maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules, prepare monthly financial statements and supporting reports, and provide job profitability and financial performance insights to ownership.

Payroll, Benefits and Compliance
Reconcile payroll activity and related liabilities, review benefit billing and payroll deductions, coordinate workers compensation reporting and related compliance, and ensure payroll liabilities are properly recorded.

Tax and Regulatory Compliance
Manage federal, state, and local tax filings (payroll, CAT, B&O, etc.), prepare and file annual 1099 contractor reports, coordinate with external CPA for tax preparation and year-end reporting, maintain compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, monitor accounts receivable aging and collections, and identify and resolve unbilled or delayed revenue items while maintaining controls to prevent leakage.
Qualifications
- At least five years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or related trades.
- Solid understanding of job costing and service billing.
- Proficiency with Sage accounting software or comparable systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of payroll taxes and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with management and office staff.
- Proven expertise in financial report writing, balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, and general ledger management.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
- Experience overseeing cash management, forecasting, and budgeting activities.
- Ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, accessible reports for diverse audiences.
