Overview

Tran Capital Management is seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant / Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of a growing, multi-entity organization. This role provides exposure to leadership across hospitality, real estate, and property management divisions and offers insight into high level financial strategy and operations. This position is well suited for a strong Senior Accountant transitioning into an Assistant Controller capacity within a fast-paced, multi-entity environment. This opportunity is based in Savannah, Georgia, on-site, full-time and exempt, with a compensation range of $60,000 to $75,000 plus benefits.

Position Summary

The Assistant Controller assists the Controller in managing the day-to-day accounting operations of Tran Capital Management and its affiliated entities, including Rhino Hospitality Group and White Birch Property Management. The role oversees financial reporting, general ledger integrity, month-end close processes, and ensures adherence to GAAP and internal controls across a multi-vertical portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Month-End Close: Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements across all entities; co-manage month-end and year-end close; reconcile balance sheet accounts and review journal entries for accuracy; prepare variance analyses and executive reporting packages for leadership.
  • General Ledger & Accounts: Maintain the integrity of the general ledger across multiple entities; oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions with timely processing; review and approve bank reconciliations; support fixed asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and capital project accounting.
  • Compliance & Internal Controls: Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal accounting policies; assist with external and internal audit preparation and documentation; identify control gaps and recommend process improvements; maintain up-to-date documentation for accounting procedures and policies.
  • Payroll & Tax Support: Assist with payroll review, reconciliation, and reporting; support preparation of sales tax, property tax, and other applicable tax filings; coordinate with external CPA or tax advisors as directed by the Controller.
  • Team & Operations: Supervise or mentor accounting staff as needed; collaborate cross-functionally with operations, property management, and restaurant teams; support accounting systems implementation and process automation initiatives; provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting for the Controller or executive team.

Payroll & Tax Support

  • Assist with payroll review, reconciliation, and reporting; coordinate with payroll platforms as applicable.
  • Support preparation of sales tax, property tax, and other relevant filings; liaise with external CPA or tax advisors as directed by the Controller.

Team & Operations

  • Provide supervision or mentorship to accounting staff including AP clerks and bookkeepers as needed.
  • Collaborate with operations, property management, and restaurant teams to ensure accurate, timely financial information.
  • Support system implementations and process automation initiatives; deliver ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as requested by the Controller or executive leadership.

Qualifications

  • Education & Certification: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required, or an equivalent combination of experience and an Associate degree; CPA license or active CPA candidacy strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience; multi-entity or multi-industry background preferred; hospitality, real estate, or property management experience is a significant plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software required (QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Restaurant365, AppFolio, or equivalent); advanced Excel skills; familiarity with financial reporting tools preferred; knowledge of payroll platforms such as ADP, Rippling, or similar.
  • Core Competencies: High attention to detail with strong organizational abilities; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment; strong written and verbal communication; professional discretion with sensitive financial information.

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Controller and collaborates closely with the COO and the executive team. As the organization grows, the Assistant Controller may supervise accounting support staff.
