Principal Financial Analyst

Role Overview

Capital One is seeking a Principal Financial Analyst to join the Software Finance team. This role will influence financial performance across the Software business by analyzing current results, identifying evolving needs, evaluating trends, and communicating expected outcomes. You will lead the development of compelling analytics and collaborate with business leaders to guide strategic direction toward sustained performance. The ideal candidate proactively identifies and executes ad hoc analyses to support business objectives, challenges existing processes for greater proactivity and efficiency, and demonstrates a deep interest in understanding the complexities of the Software sector. The position supports financial data analysis, prepares financial statements, and frequently builds reports for senior colleagues, while communicating project statuses to management and business clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and analysis.
• Lead the development of presentations to communicate analysis results to senior audiences, clearly articulating outcomes and relevant insights.
• Accurately analyze and explain key cost drivers and monthly variances, suggest actions to the business, and help manage the regular reporting process.
• Proactively identify and lead new analyses that drive additional insights into performance and opportunities.
• Partner with finance leaders and their teams, as well as other internal stakeholders.
• Provide management and business clients with project statuses.
• Work closely with the finance team to identify areas and processes for driving efficiencies.
• Respond to ad-hoc requests and special projects.
• Manage, prioritize, and delegate tasks independently.
• Demonstrate strong communication, problem solving, strategic thinking, and influencing skills: articulate outcomes of analysis and relevant insights; develop presentations to communicate results to senior audiences; foster trusted business relationships.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or military experience.
• At least 3 years of experience in financial analysis, financial modeling, or a combination.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering) or military experience.
• Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Master’s Degree in Finance.
• Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) license or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
• 5+ years of experience in financial analysis and financial modeling.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• 3+ years of experience in financial services, banking, or technology industries.
• 3+ years of experience partnering with senior leaders and internal stakeholders.

Salary and Location

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

• McLean, VA: $120,800 - $137,900 for Principal Financial Analyst
• Richmond, VA: $109,900 - $125,400 for Principal Financial Analyst

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered.
