About the role
Wells Fargo seeks a Principal Credit Risk and Approval Officer to serve as the Credit Officer responsible for credit risk oversight within the Banking division of Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB Banking). This role supports integrated financial solutions for corporate, investment grade, non investment grade, public and private clients. The successful candidate will actively participate in the credit process, delivering holistic risk assessments in collaboration with deal teams and portfolio management, with the authority to approve complex transactions and to engage senior risk and business leaders as needed.
Key responsibilities
- Provide oversight and management of credit risk for CIB Banking, supporting the division’s objectives while upholding prudent underwriting standards and strong portfolio quality.
- Maintain credit quality and portfolio health by offering informed risk guidance, recommendations, and approvals; conduct regular portfolio evaluations and review deteriorating or problem credits, escalating when appropriate.
- Develop and maintain a solid understanding of bank credit policy, regulatory standards and guidance, and risk rating applicability; lead and advise CIB Banking teams on these matters.
- Build and sustain sector and industry knowledge; collaborate with product teams and subject matter experts to inform decisions and recommendations.
- Review pipeline activity with CIB Banking teams to support deadline management and client expectations.
- Provide leadership on due diligence and analytical focus, particularly for merger and acquisitions financing and other complex transactions.
- Interact with internal and external customers to facilitate informed credit decisions.
Required qualifications
- 10+ years of Credit Risk and Approval experience or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military service, or education.
Desired qualifications
- A BS/BA degree or higher in accounting, finance, or economics.
- Strong credit analysis capabilities.
- Ability to work effectively and influence within a matrix organization and build partnerships at all levels.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; capable of executive-level collaboration and influence.
- Experience with complex organizational and capital structures; solid understanding of capital markets and acquisition finance.
- Solid understanding of Wells Fargo's credit culture and risk management approach.
- Solid understanding of loan documentation, credit agreements, and security structure.
