Lead Senior Accountant

Location: Mission Viejo, CA

Overview

The Lead Senior Accountant ensures precise and timely financial reporting through thorough analysis of financial data, the creation of journal entries and reconciliations, and participation in the month-end close cycle. The role also oversees staff output, supports internal and external audits, and assists in refining accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules as part of the month-end close process
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances or discrepancies
• Assist in the preparation and review of financial statements and the related fluctuation analysis
• Review the work performed by staff
• Support internal and external audit requests, including preparation of schedules and documentation
• Collaborate with accounts payable and accounts receivable teams to ensure accurate and efficient accounting processes
• Help maintain and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Participate in process improvement initiatives, system enhancements, and special projects
• Mentor and collaborate with junior accounting staff as appropriate
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Public accounting experience highly preferred
• CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred
• Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and general accounting principles
• Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations
• Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.)
• Experience with ERP or accounting systems (NetSuite, Great Plains, or similar preferred)
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
