Position overview
The Jr Business Unit Controller supports accurate financial management and controlling for a Business or Divisional Unit. This role assists the Finance Director and BU Head plus management teams in financial planning, analysis and reporting, contributing to the overall business strategy and helping develop core finance skills. The position is designed to foster growth, cross-functional collaboration and exposure to industry best practices.
Location and work model
This position is based in Morganton, NC 28655 and follows a hybrid work model. Employees are expected to work on-site two days per week to support collaboration and business needs, with the flexibility to work remotely on other days. Candidates must be located within commuting distance of the Morganton area or be willing to relocate.
Responsibilities
- Drive profitability by focusing on margin improvement and protection.
- Support compliance and transparency through robust internal controls, adherence to regulatory standards, and timely, accurate reporting.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration with commercial, supply chain and operations teams to drive results and support strategic initiatives.
- Support digitalization, data analytics and operational efficiency.
- Support growth by analyzing the Customer Opportunity Model and evaluating proposals in partnership with BU Management, including reviews of the customer portfolio, profitability objectives, capital expenditure requirements, and the overall business case.
- Lead the financial planning and budgeting for the BU in close collaboration with senior team members and management.
- Ensure compliance with corporate and local policies, working with corporate functions and adhering to industry regulations.
- Participate in regular planning and forecasting with a focus on profitability and expense control.
- Act as a reliable team member and business partner, supporting financial processes and decision-making.
- Collaborate across BUs to share best practices, support joint projects, and contribute to cross-functional initiatives.
- Participate in the financial analysis of key customer contracts, investments and profit improvement programs.
- Deliver timely and accurate operational analyses for BU or corporate management.
- Assist in developing financial models and supporting pricing decisions.
- Assist with audits by gathering documentation and supporting audit requests.
Qualifications and competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in controlling, finance, or accounting, preferably in the chemical or manufacturing industry.
- Strong knowledge of Excel and financial systems; SAP experience is a plus.
- Basic understanding of financial principles and compliance standards.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and business units.
- Effective communication skills in English.
