The Nationwide Investments team oversees roughly $130 billion in assets and seeks to blend client focus, disciplined investing, and collaborative teamwork to deliver superior results. The primary function of this role is to identify, evaluate, and execute tax credit investment opportunities. This includes underwriting and closing activities, managing external relationships, and coordinating with internal teams to ensure investments are structured and executed in alignment with financial, tax, and accounting standards. A core component of the role is the development and oversight of complex financial models that drive investment decisions and support risk assessment, with a strong emphasis on GAAP and tax accounting throughout the investment lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain sophisticated financial models to evaluate tax credit investment opportunities.
- Assist structuring efforts to align with tax and accounting requirements.
- Analyze deal structures to optimize tax benefits and investor returns.
- Conduct scenario analysis and sensitivity testing to assess risk and return profiles.
- Assist in due diligence, underwriting, and closing of tax credit transactions.
- Collaborate with internal accounting and tax partners to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
- Coordinate with legal, finance/accounting, and asset management teams throughout the investment lifecycle.
- Prepare internal and external reports on investment performance and tax credit utilization.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess potential impacts on investment strategy.
- Manage and oversee partner relationships with syndicators, brokers, developers, and attorneys for the tax credit platform to drive positive investment performance.
- Perform investment site and partner office visits to understand risks and related risk mitigation strategies and manage outcomes from those visits.
- Conduct research and analysis on market and industry trends, particularly in the renewable energy sector.
- Drive continuous improvement, enhance efficiencies, and manage processes for renewable energy investments as well as other tax credit investments.
- May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
- Reporting Relationships: Asset Class Senior Investment Professional.
Qualifications and Capabilities
- Education: Bachelor’s degree with coursework in Accounting and/or Finance; CPA designation preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of finance or business-related experience; 2+ years of prior public accounting experience preferred.
- Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Self-motivated professional with strong attention to detail; high drive for results and the ability to exercise independent judgment; intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for real estate and renewable energy investments; solid understanding of GAAP and tax accounting; ability to comprehend complex investment structures; diverse, team-oriented thinker; excellent verbal and written communication skills; creativity and critical thinking to address a range of challenges; proven ability to deliver results in a timely manner; advanced Excel skills; strong organizational capabilities.
