The anticipated salary range for this role is $150,000 to $200,000. The final salary will reflect an applicant’s qualifications, experience, and a market-based assessment at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to base pay, SMBC offers a competitive benefits package to its employees.

Location: Hybrid remote in New York, NY 10172.

Role Objectives

  • Support the origination and execution of transactions with Banks and Broker Dealer clients.
  • Collaborate across the Private Debt Complex to advise Banks on optimal capital structure, balance sheet optimization, and debt issuance in public and private markets.
  • Assist in managing client relationships to uncover and develop new business opportunities.
  • Cross-sell SMBC products to enhance balance sheet utilization by leveraging the firm’s global capabilities across units.
  • Operate as a self-motivated professional who adapts quickly to evolving client needs and market conditions.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven ability to take initiative and work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Interest in the regulatory framework for Banks and Broker Dealers, including relevant regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Solid understanding of the Financial Institutions sector, global market trends, and the ability to adapt to changing conditions.
  • Knowledge of capital markets products and services applicable to Banks and Broker Dealer clients.
  • Awareness of general credit risk concepts and relevant legal/compliance considerations for Banks and Broker Dealers.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to build a network across SMBC to support communication and execution of new business ideas and opportunities.
  • 2+ years of specialized experience in FIG, Capital Markets (for example, DCM), or FIG-focused Investment Banking.

Work Model and Additional Details

SMBC employees participate in a hybrid work model that combines remote work with office time. Candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their designated SMBC office. Specific hybrid schedules will be discussed during the interview process. Hybrid arrangements may not be available for certain roles, including some FINRA-registered positions that require in-office attendance for the entire workweek.
