Role Focus
The Financial Planning Manager leads and develops financial planners within the region, partnering with advisors to deliver tailored financial plans for high net worth clients. The role emphasizes supervising team workflows, providing training, and ensuring timely production of high quality financial plans. You will operate within a regionally based team to offer personalized financial services, maintaining a client-centric culture aligned with the firm’s core values of Integrity, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Inclusion, and Connection.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Team Support & Workflow Management: Collaborate with the Regional Director and Associate Director of Financial Planning to oversee team workflows, ensure timely plan delivery, manage schedules, approve time off, and guarantee client plans are completed on time.
- Training Program Development: Design onboarding for regional hires and provide ongoing training for current team members, with regular progress check-ins to ensure consistent development.
- Performance Review & Mentorship: Conduct performance reviews, offer mentorship, provide constructive feedback, and support professional growth and career development paths for team members.
- Ongoing Development: Continuously improve training materials and processes to ensure the team has the tools and knowledge to excel and deliver exceptional client service.
Client Services & Financial Planning
- Develop Customized Wealth Strategies: Lead the creation of integrated financial plans for high-net-worth clients (assets $5MM+), including advanced tax planning, estate planning, and related areas. Provide ongoing support to advisors in presenting complex topics, ensuring the firm’s value proposition is clearly communicated and understood.
- Client Experience: Maintain a consistent, high-quality financial planning experience across all locations and client interactions.
- Complex Planning Expertise: Stay current on industry trends, particularly changes in tax laws, to ensure advice remains cutting edge.
- Collaboration with Advisory Teams: Work with advisors to align financial planning strategies with clients’ long-term objectives and enhance both advisor and client experiences. Partner with advisors during prospect meetings to demonstrate the firm’s planning capabilities.
Process & Systems Improvement
- Workflow Optimization: Contribute to ongoing enhancements of internal processes and systems to boost efficiency and client satisfaction.
- Industry Awareness & Compliance: Stay informed on industry trends, especially tax and retirement planning changes, ensuring the team remains educated on implications for client plans.
- Collaboration for Process Integration: Work with senior leadership to implement new processes across the team, ensuring smooth transitions and alignment with firm practices and policies.
Performance Reviews & Career Development
- Employee Development: Conduct semi-annual and annual performance reviews for Associate Directors of Financial Planning, Financial Planning Managers, Senior Financial Planners, and Financial Planning Associates, providing constructive feedback and setting development goals.
- Salary & Bonus Discussions: Partner with the Regional Director and Managing Director to discuss salary increases and performance bonuses for financial planning team members based on feedback, team involvement, and quality of advice.
- Career Pathing & Mentorship: Identify growth opportunities, strengths, and areas for improvement with team members and provide ongoing career coaching.
- Performance Standards: Monitor performance to ensure adherence to department standards and timelines, addressing issues with leadership and implementing Performance Improvement Plans as needed.
Hiring & Recruiting
- Recruitment Strategy: Participate in interviews for Senior Financial Planner, Financial Planning Associate, and Financial Planning Intern roles.
- Team Capacity Management: Oversee and enhance the use of Tableau and other tools to manage team capacity and optimize resource utilization.
Additional Responsibilities
- Legislative Awareness: Stay informed on legislation changes, such as SECURE Act 2.0, and educate the firm on potential impacts.
- Software & Process Improvements: Evaluate and implement updates to financial planning tools and software used by the team to maintain efficiency and effectiveness.
- Service Offering Development: Lead development of new service offerings tailored to the regional client base to expand wealth management capabilities.
- Client & Centers of Influence Engagement: Lead client seminars and local events to build relationships and provide educational support, and support meetings to implement financial strategies for clients.
- Collaboration with Centers of Influence: Work with local Centers of Influence to execute client action plans and ensure smooth implementation and strong client satisfaction.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Certification: Certified Financial Planner designation is required, with an additional area of specialty or advanced certification preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of client-facing experience in financial services, including advanced knowledge in tax and estate planning.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience in leading and developing a team, with a focus on coaching, mentorship, and resolving personnel issues.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient with financial planning software and tools such as Zoom, PractiFi, MyComplianceOffice, Microsoft Teams/Office Suite, Tamarac, eMoney, Money Guide Pro, Social Security Analyzer, Advisys, MBS Highway, Zilculator, Holistiplan, Planner CS, and Monday.com.
- Client-Focused: Strong ability to build and maintain client relationships, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and retention.
- Strong Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to present complex financial concepts to clients and internal teams.
- Detail-Oriented: High attention to detail with the ability to provide accurate and reliable financial guidance.
- Independent & Discretionary: Capable of working independently, making decisions with minimal supervision, and exercising discretion on sensitive matters.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving abilities with a proven track record of identifying challenges and delivering quick, effective solutions to sustain workflow and client satisfaction.
- Education: Undergraduate degree required.
Location, Schedule and Employment Details
Location: Boise, Idaho 83702. This is a full-time role with a hybrid work arrangement at 802 West Bannock Street, Boise, ID 83702. Hybrid scheduling is available and the program is open to the following office locations: Salt Lake City, Utah; Boise, Idaho; Las Vegas, Nevada.
