Role Overview
The City of Fort Pierre is looking for a strategic, hands-on Finance Officer to manage all financial and administrative operations for the municipality. This role extends beyond traditional accounting, acting as the chief financial adviser to the Mayor and City Council, overseeing essential municipal operations, and safeguarding the finances of a full-service city that provides water, sewer, and electric utilities to residents.

Key Responsibilities
- Direct all municipal accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Develop, manage, and monitor the City’s annual budget and all revenues and expenditures
- Oversee payroll administration and human resources compliance
- Ensure compliance with local ordinances, state statutes, and federal regulations
- Administer municipal elections in accordance with state law
- Collaborate with department heads on financial planning and operational strategy
- Maintain strong public relations through daily interaction with residents, customers, and constituents
Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Management
- Experience in governmental or municipal accounting
- Strong knowledge of public sector budgeting and compliance requirements
- Leadership skills with the ability to supervise staff and work cross-functionally
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
- Strong communicator who enjoys public engagement
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $110,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience. A $2,000 hiring bonus is included.

Work Schedule & Meetings
- Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- City Council meetings twice per month on Monday evenings
