Finance Officer Job Description

Position Summary

The Finance Officer is responsible for the financial management and fiscal integrity of the Township. This role oversees budgeting, financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, account reconciliation, purchase order management, and audit preparation. The Finance Officer supports the Board in maintaining sound financial practices and long-term fiscal stability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Budgeting and Financial Planning: Lead the development and coordination of the annual Township budget. Track budget performance across the fiscal year. Deliver regular budget-to-actual reports to the Board. Support financial forecasting and long-range planning.
• Accounting and Financial Operations: Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. Maintain the general ledger and conduct monthly reconciliations. Manage the purchase order system and related financial documentation. Monitor restricted funds, grant funds, and capital accounts. Prepare financial statements and year-end reporting.
• Compliance and Audit: Serve as the liaison with external auditors. Compile documentation for the annual audit. Ensure compliance with applicable municipal financial regulations. Maintain proper records retention for financial documentation.

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or related field preferred.
• Three to seven years of accounting or municipal finance experience preferred.
• Experience with fund accounting and municipal budgeting highly desirable.
• Proficiency with accounting software, QuickBooks certification preferred.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $52,000 - $58,000 per year. FLSA status: Exempt. This position is in person.
