Role Overview
The Director of Finance provides strategic financial leadership for Sertoma Center, guiding all financial operations and ensuring accurate, timely reporting. This position oversees the accounting and business office team, including a receptionist, and partners with the CEO to present financial information to banks, contributors, and funding sources. The role also focuses on pursuing growth opportunities, facilitating mergers and acquisitions, and developing internal growth strategies while effectively managing the organization’s revenues and expenses. Ownership of Sage Intacct as the organization’s financial software platform is required.

Relationships
- Reports to the CEO/Executive Director
- Supervises the Business Office and Accounting Staff
- Maintains professional relationships with auditors, bankers, parents/guardians, accounting and administrative staff, and the Board of Directors
Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Utilize Sage Intacct for all financial operations, including general ledger, reporting, accounts payable/receivable, and budgeting
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations across all Sertoma accounts and maintain checkbook balances
- Generate monthly financial statements with a full General Ledger trial balance; present at bi-monthly board meetings when the Board Treasurer is unavailable
- Assist the Board Treasurer in presenting financial information
- Review W-2s, 1099s, and quarterly payroll returns; ensure alignment with corresponding General Ledger accounts and payroll summaries
- Prepare ad hoc financial data reports as needed
- Support grant reporting to ensure expenditures align with grant requirements
- Monitor accounts receivable and accounts payable for timely payments and accuracy
- Verify client bank funds are applied to accounts receivable balances monthly to satisfy charges for room, board, and other client expenses
Compliance & Oversight
- Maintain information on corporate insurance (commercial package and workers’ compensation) and all funding contracts
- Coordinate with HUD representatives to ensure compliance with HUD guidelines and proper use of restricted bank accounts
- Ensure effective internal controls and proper division of responsibilities within the Business Office
Leadership & Administration
- Supervise Business Office staff and administrative support personnel
- Complete performance appraisals in a timely and efficient manner
- Serve on the Budget and Finance Committee alongside the CEO
- Coordinate with the Treasurer to schedule committee meetings, prepare agendas, and gather materials for presentation
- Plan, prepare, and provide recommendations regarding the Center’s budget
- Assist the CEO in disseminating information to Board members before scheduled meetings
- Represent the Center externally in professional clubs and societies as needed
Organizational Contribution
- Recognize team efforts as part of a collaborative supervisory and administrative function
- Contribute to organizational improvement by identifying new concepts or processes that enhance performance
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion in handling financial records
- Perform all work assignments with minimal supervision from the CEO
- Undertake any other duties as assigned by the CEO
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or economics
- 7 to 10 years of accounting experience
- Experience with Sage Intacct or similar cloud-based financial management systems is preferred
- Strong Excel skills including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis/reporting
- Experience with accounting and business process automation, including workflow optimization, integrations, and system improvements
- Valid Tennessee driver’s license and a good driving record
- Strong self-discipline and managerial capabilities
- Collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively as part of a team
