Overview
Proper Hospitality seeks a Director of Finance for Montauk Yacht Club Resort and Marina, a 106-room luxury property within The Collective. Spanning 16 acres on Star Island in Montauk, the resort offers waterfront vistas, a private beach, three pools, multiple dining options, and more than 200 wet slips for vessels ranging from small day cruisers to 300-foot superyachts. With eight decades of East End history as an elite social club, the property has been thoughtfully reborn to welcome the modern traveler, blending classic East Coast architecture with refined interiors and meticulous amenities. The Director of Finance will act as a strategic partner to the General Manager and the Executive Leadership Team, overseeing all financial operations and ensuring practices align with Montauk Yacht Club’s guest-centric vision.
Location & Work Arrangement
Hybrid work arrangement based in Montauk, NY 11954. The property is located at 32 Star Island Road, Montauk, NY 11954. This is a full-time, hybrid remote role.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the financial strategy for Montauk Yacht Club, ensuring alignment with long-term business objectives.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, including forecasting, capital expenditure planning, and long-term financial modeling.
- Provide strategic insights to optimize revenue, profitability and operational efficiency.
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and cash management.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial reports, including P&L statements, balance sheets and cash flow projections.
- Monitor working capital and manage liquidity to support operational needs.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, tax laws, and corporate policies; manage internal and external audits and maintain strong internal controls.
- Collaborate with the Revenue Management team to analyze market trends, pricing strategies and revenue performance.
- Evaluate financial impacts of sales, marketing and operational initiatives to drive profitability.
- Lead and mentor the Finance team, fostering collaboration, accountability and excellence; provide financial training to department heads to enhance fiscal understanding.
- Oversee the implementation and optimization of financial systems, tools and software; leverage technology to streamline processes and support data-driven decision making.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of financial management experience, ideally in luxury hospitality or boutique hotel settings.
- Proven track record of financial leadership and strategy execution.
Skills & Competencies
- Exceptional financial acumen with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Deep understanding of hospitality metrics, including RevPAR, ADR, GOPPAR and labor cost management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficient with financial systems (Opera, Micros, SAP, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel capabilities.
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities with a focus on developing talent.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $155,000 to $165,000 per year.
- This is a full-time role eligible for a discretionary annual bonus of up to 25% of base salary.
