Foothills Compassionate Care (Hospice of the Foothills) is seeking a dedicated Director of Finance to lead our finance and information technology operations. We are a nonprofit organization situated in the picturesque foothills of the Sierra Nevada, delivering compassionate end-of-life support and bereavement services to patients, their families, and the broader community. Role Details

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and direct the preparation and review of operating budgets, capital budgets, and financial/statistical data, communicating performance against objectives to management, the Executive Director, and the Board of Directors.
  • Develop and implement plans for working capital, cash management, and reserve funds to ensure proper control and safeguarding of assets.
  • Direct the preparation and evaluation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and government reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and maintain accurate payroll and tax withholdings following all regulatory guidelines.
  • Serve as a staff resource in administrative and financial discussions, and oversee negotiations for large capital expenditures.
  • Counsel management and the Executive Director on reducing costs, increasing revenues, developing new programs/services, and implementing technological improvements.
  • Participate in management and staff meetings representing HOF financial interests, and serve as a member of the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • As a member of the senior Leadership team, contribute to strategic planning, evaluation, and professional development initiatives.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Develop, implement, and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all statutory requirements of the organization are met, including Charitable Status, Withholding Payments (CPP, EI), Income Tax, Goods and Services Tax, and Employer Health Tax.
  • Ensure all supporting information for the annual audit and liaise with the Board's Audit Committee and the external auditors as necessary.
  • Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.
  • Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash.
  • Reconcile bank and investment accounts.
  • Review monthly results and implement monthly variance reporting.
  • Manage the cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts in accordance with policy.
  • Oversee the bookkeeping function including maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll.
