Role and Location
The Director, GP Strategies will help lead the investment team for a Houston-based energy private equity secondaries business. This role is based in Houston with a hybrid remote arrangement. A substantial portion of the workload will involve fundraising as well as investing, with a focus on GP interests, including sourcing, underwriting, financial modeling, evaluation and due diligence for new transactions across upstream, midstream, oilfield services, power and other traditional energy sectors. The position will contribute to portfolio management and strategic decision-making and will participate in all investment activities, including investment memos, quarterly newsletters, investor communications and other investor reports.
A Day in the Life

Investment Analysis, Modeling and Due Diligence
- Develop and refine Excel-based underwriting models for new and existing investments in energy private equity GP interests, continuation funds and direct investments.
- Lead detailed company-level analysis across upstream, midstream and other energy sectors, including discounted cash flow, M&A precedent transactions, well-by-well analyses and sensitivity analyses related to oil and gas prices.
- Manage end-to-end due diligence processes across multiple GPs, including fund and direct investment diligence on all underlying and new portfolio companies.
- Prepare investment committee materials and quarterly investment reports with clear, data-driven recommendations.

Deal Sourcing & Networking
- Support origination by evaluating opportunities and building relationships with industry contacts, including travel to industry conferences, AGMs and investor meetings.
- Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify attractive investment themes and targets.

Transaction Management
- Oversee deal structuring, negotiations and documentation in collaboration with legal and advisory teams.
- Ensure timely execution and alignment with strategic objectives.

Portfolio Management
- Monitor portfolio company performance and support value creation initiatives, including M&A, operational improvements and strategic planning.
- Help make key investment decisions and provide experienced, analytical support to the investment team.

Fund Raising
- Focus on fundraising activities, meetings with current and prospective investors, and expanding industry contacts.
- Attend AGM meetings to cultivate existing and new energy private equity relationships and grow the network.
- Source new investment opportunities at AGMs, investor meetings and client entertainment events.

What You’ll Need
- Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, petroleum engineering or related fields.
- Licenses/Certifications Required: Series 7 and CFA preferred.
- Minimum Specific Experience Required: 12+ years of experience in energy, asset management, investment banking and private equity. Must be at least 18 years old and possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States. No visa sponsorship is available.
