We are partnering with a high growth life insurance platform to appoint a Director of Financial Operations who will lead the organization's operational finance and accounting infrastructure. This leader will shape scalable financial operations processes within a fast moving, entrepreneurial environment and will oversee core operational accounting functions such as treasury operations, policyholder activity reconciliations, and accounts payable, while ensuring strong controls and regulatory compliance. The role collaborates closely with internal teams and external service providers to deliver accurate reporting and efficient processes as the business scales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the financial operations function, including accounts payable, treasury, and operational accounting activities
  • Oversee bank relationships and cash management processes, including bank reconciliations and treasury operations
  • Manage policyholder activity and administrative system reconciliations to ensure alignment between operational systems and financial records
  • Lead a team responsible for operational accounting and financial operations functions
  • Supervise key financial operations workflows to keep processes efficient, controlled, and scalable
  • Manage relationships with third party providers supporting compliance and reporting efforts
  • Ensure internal processes support insurance regulatory and tax reporting requirements, including premium tax obligations
  • Collaborate with accounting, finance, and operations teams to design and improve financial operations processes in a high growth setting
  • Support the implementation and enhancement of systems, controls, and operational workflows as the organization scales

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 6–10+ years of experience in accounting, financial operations, or operational finance roles
  • Experience within the insurance industry, preferably life insurance, annuities, or related financial services
  • Strong understanding of operational accounting processes, including treasury, reconciliations, and financial operations controls
  • Experience managing or overseeing banking relationships and treasury processes
  • Experience working with insurance policy administration or operational systems
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in life insurance or annuity platforms, carriers, reinsurers, or insurance technology companies
  • Exposure to premium tax reporting, regulatory reporting, or insurance compliance processes
  • Experience working with outsourced providers supporting compliance or operational processes
  • Background in high growth, startup, or private equity backed environments
