Deputy Controller

Empowered Staffing has partnered with a rapidly growing owner and operator of healthcare facilities and related services to add a Deputy Controller to its corporate finance team. The role supports the financial oversight of a portfolio of healthcare real estate assets and reports to the Director of Finance and Controller. The ideal candidate has 6–8 years of experience and is prepared to step into a leadership-focused position guiding the monthly close, financial reporting, and portfolio performance analysis to support strategic decision-making. This position is based in Skokie, Illinois.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly close for a portfolio of healthcare real estate assets, delivering financial statements, performing reconciliations, posting journal entries, and ensuring GAAP-compliant reporting.
• Collaborate with the Director of Finance and Controller to assess portfolio performance, generate financial reports, and enable strategic decision making.
• Supervise day-to-day accounting operations including cash activity, bank reconciliations, chart of accounts maintenance, and internal control practices.
• Develop and review financial analyses, budgets, forecasts, and variance reporting to inform portfolio and operational planning.
• Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and outsourced accounting providers while supporting annual audits and regulatory reporting.
• Monitor debt levels and loan compliance while assisting with loan applications, financial documentation, and lender reporting.
• Collaborate with internal teams (AP, AR, and operations) to ensure accurate financial data, efficient processes, and timely reporting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 7–8 years of accounting experience, including financial reporting and portfolio-level analysis.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.
• Advanced Excel and accounting systems experience, with Sage Intacct a plus.
• Experience supporting audits, budgeting, and financial analysis.

Qualifications

• CPA or CMA preferred.
