Department Overview

The Healthcare Practice Solutions Group is a specialized unit within TD that provides customized financing options to healthcare professionals across six defined NAICS codes, including dentists, veterinarians, physicians, optometrists, psychiatrists, and podiatrists. This role sits on a team of analysts serving the full TD footprint. Underwriters assess credit facilities primarily supported by Healthcare Practice Value and a borrower’s capacity for cash flow generation and global debt repayment. Responsibilities include thorough underwriting of both new and existing client relationships, along with limited portfolio management activities such as monitoring financial covenants and completing annual credit reviews.

Role Summary and Scope

The Credit Portfolio Manager I (CPM) gathers financial and general business information for customer and prospect loan requests. It involves performing financial analyses to inform credit decisions, contributing input to the group loan decision process based on credit risk and other key factors, and supporting the commercial banking team by recommending credit solutions that add value to the customer.

Key responsibilities include managing specific credit activities to ensure underwriting quality and timely execution, potentially overseeing analytical support and workflow for the department, and working on larger, more complex Middle Market deals. The CPM may lead, create, develop, and introduce commercial and credit related initiatives. It serves as a consultant to business lines on credit issues, processes and procedures, and acts as a resource for business lines, collaborating with senior management on various issues, managing expectations and timelines. The role partners with Lending/Credit Officers to address exceptions identified by internal or external auditors or examiners. Periodic customer-site inspections to audit accounts and verify loan terms may be performed. Coordination with Account and Relationship Managers for routine financial analyses and credit investigations is required, and credit decisions are communicated to Relationship Managers and Account Managers. The CPM manages workflow and policy adherence for the department, participates in cost-benefit analyses and implementation, and drives service level standards aligned to business performance. Ensuring timely information flow, process efficiency, and confidentiality of credit and customer data are ongoing responsibilities. The position may involve leadership within a regional or market level team of Credit Analysts.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of related experience
  • Strong understanding of commercial business development techniques and credit decisions
  • Demonstrates a track record in business development
  • Wide network of outside referral sources for new business
  • Proven credit and financial analysis skills
  • Refined negotiation abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with PC applications
