Purpose

The Corporate Underwriting Manager oversees the Underwriting Management Ecosystem to drive portfolio optimization and quality assurance. This role ensures the company operates within its underwriting risk appetite while navigating market cycles. It uses strategic risk management to build portfolio resiliency, enabling intelligent growth and sustainable profitability, aligned with underwriting excellence. The position actively maintains underwriting discipline during shifting market conditions and ensures delegated underwriting authority is exercised consistently within defined risk tolerances.

Key responsibilities

Underwriting Management

  • Maintain and supervise the Underwriting Management Ecosystem, including referral requirements to shape the portfolio
  • Develop underwriting strategies for the target portfolio
  • Oversee Delegated Underwriting Authority (DUA) consultations and reviews to ensure alignment with business goals
  • Ensure adherence to Munich Re and Global Specialty Insurance guidelines
  • Use predictive analytics to identify and address potential financial risks, threats, or opportunities to proactively manage underwriting risk amid evolving market conditions
  • Keep the company-wide Underwriting Strategy current and aligned with the organization’s risk appetite

Delegated Authority & Large Deal Oversight

  • Review outputs from Delegated Underwriting Authority and Account Reviews to confirm decisions support business objectives
  • Manage and/or perform annual Large Deal Referral analyses

Required technical skills

  • Underwriting portfolio and exposure analysis
  • Governance and review execution for Delegated Underwriting Authority
  • Advanced data analysis and modeling analytics
  • Process design, standards development, and documentation methods

Education, Certification, & Designations

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, risk management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of experience in underwriting, underwriting governance, risk management, or related insurance roles
  • Proven experience collaborating across functions and influencing outcomes without direct authority
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills
