Opportunity Overview
A distinguished boutique investment advisory and family office practice is seeking a seasoned Controller to manage the accounting and financial operations for multiple family entities and investment vehicles. The role partners with the Founder & CEO and serves in a leadership capacity for financial reporting, accounting operations, compliance, and strategic planning for a high-net-worth client base. The ideal candidate combines deep accounting expertise with strong communication skills and the ability to present financial information clearly while preserving the highest level of discretion.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including the general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Maintain precise financial records across multiple family entities and investments.
- Prepare consolidated financial reporting and monthly statements.
- Monitor cash positions and manage intercompany transfers.
- Forecast liquidity needs and support financial planning efforts.
- Develop budgets, financial models, and forecasts.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors to support tax compliance and planning.
- Reconcile investment activity within portfolio accounting systems.
- Produce client-ready financial reporting and performance analyses.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, regulatory requirements, and GAAP.
- Assist leadership with operational and financial decision-making.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 7–10+ years of accounting or financial management experience.
- 3–5+ years of experience in family office, RIA, or an investment firm preferred.
- Previous roles such as Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or Assistant Controller.
- Experience with financial reporting and multi-entity accounting.
- Familiarity with systems like Addepar, Sage Intacct, Charles Schwab, or Bill.com is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with high-net-worth clients.
- Exceptional organization and attention to detail.
- CPAs, CFAs, MBAs, or CFPs are a plus but not required.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $130,000 – $160,000. Total compensation: $225,000 – $250,000. Hybrid work environment. Direct collaboration with firm leadership. A high-impact role within a growing investment advisory platform.
Compensation potential: Total compensation could reach $200,000 – $250,000, depending on experience and performance.
Location & Work Arrangement
Location options include Santa Monica, CA or Newport Beach, CA, with a hybrid work setup.
