Job Description

Position Summary

The Controller ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data across multiple entities, prepares reports for various stakeholders, and partners with internal teams to enhance financial processes. This role directs the daily operations of the accounting team and implements strong policies and procedures to support scalable growth. The position is based in Tucson, Arizona and is full-time and exempt. The Controller reports to the Chief Executive Officer or Chief Financial Officer.

Compensation

  • Salary: $120,000 – $150,000 per year
  • Pay: $120,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year

Core Responsibilities

  • Leadership
    • Oversee the accounting team responsible for financial reporting, billing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation
    • Direct day-to-day accounting activities including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, inventory, bank reconciliations, and monthly and annual closing processes
    • Prepare and analyze financial statements in line with GAAP
    • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and uphold internal controls
    • Foster a collaborative environment and mentor accounting staff
    • Hire, train, and manage accounting team members
    • Identify training needs, coordinate programs, and regularly assess team and individual performance
  • Financial Controls
    • Establish internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation
    • Develop and enforce policies and procedures; maintain a control framework to minimize risk and enhance transparency
    • Advance financial policies to ensure operational efficiency and regulatory compliance
    • Implement strong internal controls and drive process improvements across departments
  • Accounting
    • Lead and review activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets
    • Ensure timely production of periodic financial reports in accordance with GAAP
    • Monitor cash flow and working capital to maintain financial health and readiness
    • Audit accounts for regulatory compliance; coordinate with external auditors and provide information for annual audits
    • Manage and review accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, bank reconciliations, and the general ledger
    • Prepare month-end, year-end, and ad hoc financial reports
    • Regularly report financial metrics to the leadership team
    • Present recommendations on short and long term financial objectives and policies
    • Prepare financial analyses focused on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
    • Plan and prepare final financial statements to support annual tax filings
    • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role supervising accounting staff
  • Strong expertise in GAAP and accounting principles
  • Experience managing accounting functions across multiple companies or entities
  • Experience using accounting software platforms
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite proficiency
  • Active CPA license or advanced accounting coursework
  • Experience with point-of-sale (POS) systems
  • Experience working in a regulated environment
  • Knowledge of highly regulated industry environments

Physical Requirements

The Controller sits or stands at a desk for extended periods while using a computer. Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 25 pounds may be required. Some bending, stooping, or climbing stairs may be necessary.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This role requires hands-on collaboration and operational duties and is conducted fully in person.

Travel

Some out-of-state travel may be required. The successful candidate should maintain reliable transportation to fulfill responsibilities.
