Job Summary
The Church Business Administrator (CBA) serves as the administrative and operational leader for Calvary, directing operations, financial and budgetary stewardship, human resources, and the supervision of facilities, operations, and administrative staff. As the primary leader of the church’s administrative and operational functions, the CBA provides strong oversight to ensure the support services run smoothly and effectively. The role involves close collaboration with pastoral staff, lay leadership (including the Treasurer, Property Deacons, and Staff Relations Deacon), and direct reports to advance the church’s vision, mission, and ministries.
Position Details
- Status: Exempt, Part-time
- Hours: 18 hours per week
- Schedule/Work Arrangement: Hybrid remote in Denver, CO 80224, with a preference for on-site work. Remote work is possible when approved. On-site presence is important when other staff and significant events are in the building, to serve as a resource for building partners, guests, staff, and members of the congregation. A sample schedule could be 4 hours on Monday, 5 hours on Tuesday, 5 hours on Wednesday, and the remaining 4 hours on Thursday and/or Friday; weekend events may require the CBA’s presence.

- Reports To: Senior Pastor (primarily), and Staff Relations Deacon (secondarily)
- Proficient In: QuickBooks; Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Willing to Learn: ConnectPay; Planning Center; PEOPLE Church Management Software; Slack; Asana; Zoom
Job Duties
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
- Serve as the decision-maker and signatory for Calvary on all executive, administrative, legal, tax, and facilities matters up to the authorized limit; act as the public spokesperson for these matters
- With the Treasurer, monitor compliance with tax authorities to maintain 501(c)(3) status
- Advise the Senior Pastor on issues with potential impact beyond the normal scope; escalate matters for higher-level consideration when warranted before a decision is made
- Participate in strategic planning processes; track progress and follow up with responsible parties to achieve established goals
- Manage church legal matters
FINANCIAL, BUDGETARY, AND STEWARDSHIP
- Oversee the Accounting Office personnel and volunteers, providing direction to ensure accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and adherence to internal controls and policies
- Oversee financial risk management programs, including mitigating fraudulent phishing and similar threats
- Supervise payroll processing, tax and benefit deductions, and the timekeeping system; serve as back-up for payroll tasks as necessary
- Monitor Calvary’s financials to support budget adherence, report variances, and recommend corrective actions
- Follow purchasing protocols and provide final approval for all purchases within signatory authority
- Support the deacons and staff in stewardship communications and developing stewardship campaigns or other methods of income generation
- Demonstrate forward-looking financial strategies to ensure long-term sustainability
- Support the Treasurer in financial work as requested
BUILDING AND PROPERTY
- Supervise and collaborate with the Facilities and Operations Manager, who (along with Property Deacons and the Technology Volunteer) is responsible for internal and external building usage, facilities and systems management, risk management, insurance, maintenance, purchasing, and other building-related administrative tasks

Hybrid remote position based in Denver, Colorado 80224. On-site presence is preferred, especially during staff-related activities and major events; remote work is possible with prior approval.
