Position Summary

As the Chief Financial Officer for Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region, you will serve as a strategic partner in shaping, monitoring, and evaluating the organization’s overall financial strategy, planning, and analysis, with a focus on strengthening financial and operating performance.

  • Financial Management

    Oversee the organization’s financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and auditing. Ensure that financial transactions, policies, and procedures align with short- and long-term objectives and comply with applicable regulations, accounting principles, and standards. Manage the preparation and dissemination of monthly and annual financial statements. Ensure timely reporting of key financial data to stakeholders. Administer cash flow forecasting. Oversee bidding, proposals, recommendations, and contracts with all third-party subcontractors (excluding construction subcontractors). Develop and implement the organization’s financial strategy, including long-range planning, risk management, and investment approaches. Collaborate with the senior leadership team on operational and strategic issues, delivering insights based on financial analysis, cost allocation, and revenue/expense reviews.

  • Risk Management and Compliance

    Lead operational risk management activities, maintaining internal controls, securing appropriate insurance coverage, implementing fraud-mitigation protocols, and ensuring adherence to Habitat for Humanity International standards. Ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all financial and grant-related activities, including local, state, and federal tax obligations and grant requirements.

  • Leadership

    Direct the Finance team and support their ongoing professional development. Foster cross-department collaboration with other senior leaders to ensure financial solutions support evolving strategy, service delivery, and data collection needs. Build and nurture relationships with the Board of Directors, committee members, Habitat for Humanity affiliates, external partners, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent, with 7–10 years of related experience; nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, management, and supervisory skills, with the ability to inspire and guide teams toward achieving organizational goals.
