Overview
The AVP / VP, Relationship Manager for Corporate Banking oversees the development and management of relationships with corporate clients, with an emphasis on origination opportunities and portfolio risk within the assigned segment. The role offers a range of corporate banking product solutions to satisfy client needs, aims to close sales, and delivers responsive, high quality service. It may span geographic areas or specific services and includes authority to approve transactions within delegated limits. The position also monitors overall relationship profitability and portfolio risk.
Responsibilities
- Develops and implements a business development plan and calling schedule for each client or prospect aligned with the bank's strategy; identifies opportunities and solicits referrals from other business segments; conducts market research within the area as part of an integrated marketing plan.
- Prepares for client calls by gaining a strong understanding of the company, its industry, business model, and needs; sets objectives for each relationship in terms of profit contribution, ROA and ROE.
- Maintains regular contact with existing clients; visits current or prospective clients and meets with their financial officer(s); discusses and promotes the full range of corporate banking products and services; reviews financing opportunities and general business conditions; assists in forecasting clients' finances and developing solutions to meet their financial needs; brings in product specialists as needed to problem solve or structure transactions.
- Negotiates and prices transactions to achieve targeted returns; documents and closes transactions in compliance with bank policy and regulatory requirements; exercises sound credit and risk judgment in presenting transactions for approval; presents transaction recommendations to senior management.
- Interfaces with other bank units as needed; defines responsibilities and coordinates objectives across product areas within a relationship or transaction; resolves client needs and coordinates with other departments to address concerns.
- Monitors and analyzes relationship plan results and account activity; determines client profitability; maintains relationships with industry contacts and key strategic partners; recommends accounts for further development or elimination; prepares management reports.
- Monitors the assigned portfolio for quality, risk and policy adherence to enable early detection of credit quality changes; analyzes problem credits and works with clients to develop solutions to minimize loss exposure; performs ongoing credit reviews and communicates changes in credit quality to maintain accurate risk grading; proactively recommends and administers action plans for managing adversely graded relationships to minimize credit risk and cost.
- Maintains awareness of competitive products, competitive pricing and changes in the market area; prepares timely credit recommendations, coordinates amendments and renewals; conducts periodic credit rating reviews; ensures documentation is complete and compliant with regulatory requirements and established policies.
- May act as a product specialist, providing technical consultation to clients and Relationship Managers across business segments and locations; may develop and conduct client and employee training sessions and informal updates; provides guidance to junior Relationship Managers and Credit Analysts.
- Participates in civic and community affairs as appropriate; maintains current awareness and understanding of banking laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures, and ensures full compliance with those requirements.

Requirements
- Bachelor or higher degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or Economics
- Working experience in banking is a plus
- Bilingual Japanese - English
Salary and Benefits
The expected base salary ranges from $110,000 to $150,000. Salary offers are based on factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and applicable certifications or licenses, with consideration given to market and organizational factors. In addition to base pay, the package includes medical, dental and 401(k) plans, and a discretionary bonus may be awarded.
Work Arrangement
Mizuho maintains a hybrid working program with varying opportunities for remote work depending on the nature of the role, department needs and local laws and regulatory obligations. Some departments require greater in-office presence, which will be communicated during the recruitment process.
