Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Associate to join the front-office Natural Resources (Energy) coverage team in Houston. This role offers a strong pathway for a career in energy finance. The group covers a mix of public and private North American companies, with a focus on Upstream (E&P) and Midstream Oil & Gas, along with Power, Utilities, and the Clean Energy Transition sectors.

The Associate will receive structured training, hands-on experience, and meaningful contributions to the team. The position emphasizes developing core skills in financial analysis, credit risk assessment, and client management within the dynamic energy industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of 10-20 clients in collaboration with deal teams composed of Analysts, Associates, Vice Presidents, and senior Credit Officers.
  • Transaction Execution: Serve as a primary contributor and reviewer in all aspects of deal execution, including in-depth financial analysis, complex financial modeling, risk analysis, and due diligence for credit extensions to new and existing clients.
  • Client and Partner Interaction: Support senior bankers in maintaining client relationships and coordinate with internal partners such as Loan Structuring & Syndications, Commodities, Treasury & Trade Services, and various operations functions to deliver integrated financial solutions.
  • Team Development: Assist with the training and professional development of junior Analysts on the team.
  • Industry Analysis: Conduct thorough company research and industry analysis to identify key trends, risks, and opportunities within the energy sector.
  • Risk Management: Assess risk in business decisions, uphold the firm’s reputation, and safeguard the bank, its clients, and assets. This includes ensuring compliance with laws, rules, and regulations, following policy, applying ethical judgment, and transparently escalating, managing, and reporting control issues.

Qualifications

  • 3-6 years of relevant work experience
  • Theoretical and practical application of financial knowledge to Oil & Gas companies and the broader Energy industry
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and financial data analysis; advanced MS Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Obtain Series 63 and 79 licenses, and pass SIE, within 150 days of joining
  • Bachelor's/University degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal credit training from a reputable financial institution
  • Experience with syndicated and leveraged finance transactions

Compensation and Benefits

Primary salary range: $130,000.00 - $145,000.00. In addition to base compensation, Citi may provide discretionary and formulaic incentive and retention awards for eligible employees.
