Job Description

Investment Banking Associates are invited to join Wells Fargo's Mid-Cap Investment Banking team, based in Chicago, Illinois and Los Angeles, California. Associates will engage in creating client coverage materials, performing industry research and screening, and handling origination and execution across the full range of investment banking products and services. Coverage primarily focuses on Industrials and Consumer & Retail, with potential involvement in Technology, Media & Telecom, Oil & Gas and other sectors depending on client needs.

What you will do

  • Assist in shaping regional investment banking activities aligned with the business strategy and in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Support senior bankers with relationship management duties, maintaining consistent coverage of Wells Fargo Commercial Banking clients.
  • Prepare marketing documents, including pitch materials, confidential offering memoranda and management presentations.
  • Stay informed on key market developments and develop knowledge of target clients and market dynamics.
  • Coordinate with internal and external resources to organize client meetings and important engagements.
  • Perform financial analysis, including comparable transactions and public company analyses.
  • Build detailed financial models used for valuation purposes.
  • Conduct extensive financial and industry due diligence to assess risk and return parameters of transactions.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint to present various analyses.
  • Manage transaction logistics, including organizing data rooms and working group lists.

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of Investment Banking Program experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience or education.

Desired Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience across the full M&A transaction life cycle, including origination and execution.
  • Prior experience at a large investment banking platform and/or a leading securities firm.
  • Robust modeling experience related to M&A and LBO transactions.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, attention to detail, and willingness to assume significant responsibility.
  • High level of personal motivation, strong interpersonal skills, and broad intellectual capacity.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team while meeting tight deadlines and high quality standards.
  • Experience in a demanding, highly focused, collaborative team environment.
  • Proven team player with high ethics and integrity.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Job Expectations

  • Willingness to work on-site in line with current office requirements.
  • Availability to work additional hours as needed.
  • Registration for FINRA Series 79 must be completed within 90 days of the hire date if not available for transfer; FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted.
  • Registration for FINRA Series 63 (or 66) must be completed within 90 days of the hire date if not available for transfer; FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted.
  • For certain FINRA qualification exams obtained after 9/30/2018, the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) co-requisite may also be required.
  • This position is subject to FINRA Background Screening Requirements, including successful completion and clearance of a background check.
  • Internal transfers must comply with 17 CFR 240.17f-2 of the Securities Exchange Act and FINRA Bylaws, Article III, Section 3, which prohibits statutory disqualification for Associated Persons.
  • Successful candidates must meet ongoing regulatory requirements including additional screening and reporting of certain incidents.
  • Compliance policies may apply regarding outside activities or personal investing; affected employees must provide information to the Wells Fargo Personal Account Dealing Team and adhere to policy requirements if hired. Recruitment will include information about expectations.

Salary and Pay

IL and CA: 1st year base: $175,000 - $175,000; 2nd year base: $200,000 - $200,000

Pay Range: The base pay range shown reflects the range offered for this position. Actual pay may vary based on prior performance, skills, experience or location. Incentive opportunities may also be available.

Base range: $150,000.00 - $250,000.00
