Position Overview
Delaware County Electric Cooperative is seeking an Accountant in Delhi, New York 13753. This role leads accounting for all grant activity and supports the Chief Financial Officer with financial reporting, payroll, and benefits compliance. The position collaborates with the CEO and CFO on budgeting, month-end close, reconciliations, and board reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the accounting for all grant activity, including federal and state programs.
- Support the CFO with financial reporting, payroll processing, and benefits compliance.
- Collaborate with the CEO and CFO on budgeting, month-end close, reconciliations, and board reporting.
- Manage federal and state grant accounting and provide pre-audit level support for all grants.
- Process weekly payroll and associated taxes; assist with benefits administration and regulatory filings (ACA, 401(k), pension, workers' compensation, and unemployment).
- Serve as the organization’s payroll subject matter expert and assist with Employee Benefits Administration.
- Ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing; administer employee and volunteer benefit programs; support HR-related financial reporting.
- Provide leadership presence in the office during regular business hours and offer backup support for IT systems and certain financial functions.
- Work closely with the Project Management team to oversee grant accounting and related activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, with CPA certification or the coursework to obtain a CPA.
- Minimum of four years of experience performing accounting functions.
- Experience in payroll processing, employee benefits administration, and regulatory compliance is preferred.
- Electric Cooperative experience is a plus.
- Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Working knowledge of payroll regulations, benefits compliance (ACA, COBRA, ERISA), leave administration (PFL, ADA, FMLA), and related reporting requirements.
- Ability to analyze complex accounting and compliance issues and develop resolutions.
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple, time-sensitive tasks with accuracy.
- Strong technology proficiency including payroll systems, time and attendance systems, and ERP systems (preferably NISC iVue).
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of financial and employee information.
- Effective communication and employee education skills.
Compensation
Salary range $80k-$105k DOQ.
